A Letter to My Husband on our 13th Wedding Anniversary

Dear Husband:

When we married 13 years ago, I didn’t realize we weren’t just making a vow of commitment to each other; we were also making a vow of choices.

I didn't realize that so often we would have to choose between sleeping next to each other, or next to a beautiful child we created.

I didn't realize we would have to choose between getting an extra hour of sleep, or an hour of sitting with you on the sofa.

I didn’t realize we’d have to choose to show up for each other in small ways: folding laundry, brewing coffee, making lunch.

I didn’t realize how often we’d have to choose patience over frustration, forgiveness over pride, grace over annoyance.

I didn’t realize how many times life would test each of us, and how much stronger we’d grow each time we chose us again.

I didn’t realize how deeply I would come to love you. Not just for who you are, but for who we’ve chosen to be, together.

What I do know: we chose each other, and I think that was the best choice we’ve ever made! For ourselves, for our family, and for the love that keeps it all together.

Happy Anniversary! I love you now, forever and always.

Love,

Della
